Baptism - A Means of God's Grace
In Matthew 28:18-20 Jesus shares three things with His disciples before He ascends back to His kingly throne in heaven.
1. DECLARATION - He states that "all authority in heaven and on earth has been given to Me."
2. COMMAND - Out of that authority He issues a command that as we go through life we are to "make disciples of all nations by baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit." He also tells us that we are to "teach them to put into practice all that I have commanded you."
3. PROMISE - We are never alone as we encourage, model, and teach those around us how to follow Jesus. He states, "Surely I am with you always to the very end of the age."
We see the Sacrament of Baptism as a means by which God's grace comes to us! It is a holy moment where a person born into sin and deserving of eternal separation from God is united with the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ! In baptism we are forgiven. In baptism we are ignited with the gift of the Holy Spirit as He fans a faith in us. In baptism we are brought into the family of God and we enter into a lifelong adventure of following Jesus with an every day faith!
